Its traditional layout run out and back behind the sea wall with vigorous undulations enlivening play on the stretch from the 3 rd to the 7 th, and their counterparts on the back nine produce a superb finish. 18 holes, 6754 yards, par 72 Approximately 1 mile from the Royal. Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club The Leas Kingsdown, Deal, Kent, CT14 8EP Tel: 01304 363017 The nearest British mainland course to Europe, Walmer and Kingsdown is set high on the cliffs between Dover and Deal and is a wonderful location with magnificent views. With a spectacular situation overlooking the sea, the 450-yard dog-leg 7 th is also notably difficult. Sloping and undulating fairways complicate a great many holes. 18 holes, 6444 yards, par 72 Less than 3 miles from the Royal. Princes Golf Club Sandwich Bay, Sandwich, Kent, CT13 9QB Tel: 01304 611118 Founded in 1906 Prince’s consists of three nine hole courses of championship quality. These courses were constructed in 1949 following the devastation of the old Open Championship course during the war. With gentle sand dunes Prince’s is not as overwhelming as neighbouring Royal St. George’s. Dunes – 9 holes 3455 yards par 36 Himalayas – 9 holes 3321 yards par 36 Shore – 9 holes 3492 yards par 36 Approximately 6 miles from the Royal. Royal St. Georges Golf Club Sandwich, Kent, CT13 9PB Tel: 01304 613090 Royal St. George’s was the first golf course outside Scotland to host the Open Championship in 1894. The Open Championship was held here in 2003, for the 13 th time – more than any other English club. North Foreland Golf Club Convent Road Broadstairs, Thanet, Kent, CT10 3PU Tel: 01843 862140 North Foreland is a deceptively difficult course, seemingly forgiving because of its open nature on high ground overlooking the sea. Because they play uphill, the 8 th, 17 th and 18 th are particularly demanding each about 450 yards long. This is a fantastic golf course set in undulating wooded parkland, with a number of outstanding holes. 18 holes 6249 yards par 70 Broome Park Golf Club Broome Park Estate Barham, Canterbury, Kent, CT4 6QX Tel: 01227 830728 Broome Park Golf Club is less than 30 minutes from the Royal.
